Unique Children

My Description of an Unique Child

Educators and Science are now using the term Neuro-divergent to describe children who learn and think differently and have been identified as either ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), ADHD or Dyslexia (Learning Disabilities-reading).

I use the words Unique Children to describe children who learn, think and act differently than the  neurotypical average child and may or may not have an IEP or a 504 Plan. They may be below or  above the IQ range of the neurotypical child.  They may struggle with their academics or need to be challenged more.  They may struggle with executive function skills or what I am calling success skills. They may have given up and are not  motivated to initiate and complete tasks.

My Experienced-Based Teaching Strategies

"Unlocking Your Child's Potential: A Multisensory Approach to Learning"

Every unique child learns differently, and it is important to find teaching methods that are tailored to each child's individual needs, learning style, strengths and interests. My multisensory teaching strategies are designed to engage children and help them learn in a way that is both fun and effective.

As a teacher and parent of children with learning differences,  I believe that all children have the potential to learn and succeed, and I am passionate about helping them reach their full potential.  My experienced-based teaching strategies are founded on this belief, and they have helped many children with learning differences achieve success in school and beyond.

Throughout my 39 years of teaching, I implemented a range of strategies to enhance my students' learning experiences:

  • To promote active engagement, I employed various hands-on activities such as board games, large and small motor skill games, art projects, and field trips. These activities allowed students to learn by doing, which is a proven effective method to retain knowledge.
  • Another approach that I took was to focus on building each student's strengths and interests. By understanding what motivates and inspires them, I was able to tailor my lessons to their individual needs. This approach fostered a positive attitude towards learning and helped them stay engaged throughout the school year.
  • Moreover, I provided individualized support to every student to ensure that they received the necessary assistance. I worked closely with each student either one-on-one or in small groups, providing guidance and support. This approach enabled me to identify areas where students needed extra help and to address them in a timely and effective manner.

Overall, my experienced-based teaching strategies aimed to create a positive and engaging learning environment that catered to the unique needs of each student.

I am always seeking new and innovative ways to help children learn. I am confident that my multisensory teaching strategies can make a positive difference in the lives of children with learning differences and neurotypical children alike.
